The Political Power of Art
Communications to advance progressive values take many forms. The power of art as a form of political communication has not been explored adequately thus far. What can art tell us about our culture, about how to effect change, and how to move the narrative discreetly but powerfully?
Art may seem far removed from voters and voter choices. It is not. Art visualizes pain, hope, progress and the struggle for a more just society. The speakers this month understand that art isn’t something studied, art is experienced and felt...and communicates in a way that can be more powerful than any words. This month, we heard from Amy Weiss, member of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum for Women in the Arts who serves as Communications Chair on its Executive Committee and Ken Grossinger, author of the new book, Art Works: How Organizers and Artists are creating a Better World Together.
